What to Wear for a Family Photoshoot in Cape Town
If you’re planning a family photoshoot in Cape Town, one of the first questions that comes up is what to wear. And I get it, it can feel like a lot of pressure.
The good news is, it doesn’t need to be complicated. The best outfits are the ones that feel like you, just slightly more considered.
Keep it simple
Soft, neutral tones always work beautifully, think creams, beiges, soft blues, muted greens, dusty pinks.
Try to avoid:
bright neons
large logos
busy patterns
Strong stripes and polka dots
Plaid
These tend to distract from what really matters, your connection.
Coordinate, don’t match
Instead of everyone wearing the same thing, choose a colour palette and build around it.
For example:
Mum in a flowy neutral dress
Kids in soft tones that complement
Dad in something simple and relaxed
If someone is wearing a print such as florals, try to avoid clashing by putting the rest of the family in solid colours
Think about movement
Cape Town light and locations (especially beaches) work best with movement.
Dresses that flow, fabrics that catch the wind and outfits that feel comfortable will photograph beautifully.
Dress for the location
If we’re shooting on the beach, barefoot always works.
If it’s a field or forest, slightly more textured outfits can feel really lovely.
Final thought
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable. When you feel good, it shows and that’s what makes the photos.
I always send through a detailed styling guide to help you choose outfits once your session is booked.
