Family Photos with Toddlers – What to Expect
If you’re planning a shoot with toddlers, you might be wondering how it’s all going to go.
The short answer? It’s a little unpredictable and that’s exactly the magic.
It’s not about perfect behaviour
Toddlers don’t need to sit still or smile on cue.
Some of the best moments come from:
running around
cuddles
little in-between interactions
messy breakdowns
So don’t panic or stress. Let them be themselves. I promise we will find the magical moments.
We follow their lead
My sessions are very much child-led.
If your little one wants to explore, we go with it.
If they need a moment to themselves, we take it.
If it’s time for a little snack, we give it to them.
If they rip off or wreck their perfect little outfit, we let it be.
There’s no pressure or ‘perfect’.
Timing matters
Sunset sessions we shoot the hour before sunset for the best light. This is a scary time for most parents, but I promise your little one will do just great!
They will be so happy to be out in nature and getting all the love and attention before bedtime.
Make sure you’ve feed them a solid meal just before we shoot and properly time any vital nap times.
Snacks + comfort help
Bring a small snack. Think pop in the mouth, no mess, no fuss foods that take just one bite to eat. Hungry kids are grumpy kids.
A spare set of clothing and warm layers or a blankie for when the sun goes down. Wet clothing can get uncomfortable.
Final thought
The goal isn’t perfection, it’s genuine connection.
And that’s what makes these photos so meaningful to look back on.
